Wayside Organics was started by Bart Ives in 1989, following in his father Peter's footsteps. Peter and his wife Jane were long established growers sending flowers, vegetables & eggs to wholesalers all over the south of England & London. Many an early morning run to Covent Garden Market was made! Bart studied Philosophy & Medieval Literature in London before a newspaper article on herb growing spurred him to return to the family business. He traded for many years at Britain's first wholly organic market at Old Spitalfields and still does...
Lyburn Organic Vegetables
Straddling the small river Blackwater, Lyburn Farm has been farmed by the Smales family, Mike, Judy and their son Jonathon, for the last 40 years. The river Blackwater rises on some of the high ground of the forest and as the heather and gorse gives way, to the old ancient oak forest, home of the fallow deer, the countryside falls away sharply towards the north. In the bottom of the valley you will find the Hamptworth estate, of which Lyburn farm is part. The name Lyburn, is in fact quite...
In 1952 our family bought and moved to a small 50 acre farm called Little Buckholt, close to the village of West Tytherley, in Hampshire. Starting with 3 Gurnsey cows, Faith, Hope and Beatrix, we will have milked cows, twice a day, every day since that year, 3 generations and spanning more than 60 years. In 1969 we took on Lyburn Farm, starting with about 270 acres and 200 cows. Lyburn Farm makes a variety of different hand made cheeses, all of which are made from our own cows milk.
The Tomato Stall
We started The Tomato Stall in 2007 to showcase the speciality organic and conventional tomato varieties grown on our Isle of Wight nursery and take them direct to the consumer. This was a very exciting time, loading up our first transit van with tomatoes and making the journey to farmers’ markets in London. The reception the tomatoes received at the markets was overwhelming and, over time, we travelled far and wide trading at farmers’ markets all over the south and throughout central London including the now famous Borough Market. Both...
A small microfarm, from scratch. Like many of the lucky people who had a garden in 2020, we did a few alterations in ours last year. For us, it all started with me and my girlfriend deciding to spend lockdown one at mum's, away from our city apartments where we had little greenery nearby. It just so happened that the weather during late March/April was so wonderful to get outside, and with not much else to do, we got our hands dirty. We made vegetable patches (at the temporary expense...
At Fluffetts Farm, we are passionate about great food and have been supplying the finest eggs without compromising on the welfare of our chickens for the past 20 years. We believe genuine free range eggs should be produced the traditional way; by small carefully managed flocks. Being true to our values means a commitment exclusively to the free range sector. Our hens live on two independent family run farms on the edge of the New Forest and on Cranborne Chase. The girls lay their eggs, take shelter and roost in...
Mrs B's bees
We are a small family bee farming business and we are beekeepers first and foremost. It is at the heart of all that we do. We currently run 200 hives throughout Hampshire, Surrey and Sussex. We will only harvest honey which is surplus to the bees' requirements. To do this we leave a whole box of their honey on each of the colonies throughout the year and only harvest honey from the extra boxes that they fill when they have a good flow of nectar. All our honey is...

Pear Tree Cottage
I'm Gail from Bishops Waltham in Hampshire. I've been making preserves for many years for friends and family. This eventually developed into my own a small-scale artisan business making preserves from home. I love using local produce from my garden and the local area. I also enjoy developing my own recipes and trying out new combinations and ingredients.
You could say that Calbourne Water Mill has seen a few changes … this isn’t exactly surprising when you consider that it has been here for around 1,000 years! It was first mentioned in the Domesday Book A.D.1086, which means that it is the original Isle of Wight attraction! We are proud that our flour is ground the ‘traditional way’. Using only the power of water, our millers Neal and Alex, produce approximately 50-60 tons of flour and oats each year.
Dorset Sea Salt Co.
Founded in 2017, the Dorset Sea Salt Company is helmed by Jethro, an obsessed sea salt fanatic. After reading about the historic and cultural relevance of salt production in Dorset, and visiting the natural salt pans on the east weares of Portland, Jethro pondered how and why this local industry had vanished. This idea affected him so immensely that he began to conceptualize, and envisage the revival of Dorset’s local Sea Salt scene. With mentorship, and a small loan from the Prince’s Trust (a charity that helps young people get...

I have always been surprised at how difficult it is to find decent fudge. So, I decided to start making my own. After getting to grips with good old fashioned vanilla fudge, I decided to start experimenting with different ingredients. The ones I make now are all tried and tested, and I have to thank my good friend Maz and my brother Graham for their dogged determination in helping me discover the tastiest and most outrageous flavours. All the fudge is homemade in small batches using all natural, quality ingredients and absolutely no artificial additives or preservatives....

Fraser Neal is not your average pie maker. His career as a classically trained chef saw him working in a variety of hotels and restaurants in this country and abroad. Having spent some time seeking a really good quality handmade pie, and not finding one in Hampshire, FNK Pies came about. Sourcing most of our vegetables from Hampshire farms and even local allotments, we tested our pies on family and friends. They loved them so much that we started our own dedicated pie kitchen to cope with the demand. There is...
